The Objectives of this Association are:
To advance the protection, propagation, and conservation of fish, game and other wildlife in the State and Nation;
To support the enforcement of laws pertaining to fish, game, wildlife, and natural resources;
To encourage and promote the enactment of laws and regulations for the conservation and preservation of fish, game and other natural resources;
To prevent the destruction of property and natural resources;
To interest, educate, and train the public in conservation, fishing, hunting, the safe use of firearms, and in the shooting sports;
To promote good relations between sportsmen, landowners, and the general public; And to protect the second amendment rights of all citizens.
About The Torrington Fish and Game Association
The TF&G is under “Game Preserve Status” which allows for Sunday Pheasant hunting along with offering its members approximately 500 acres for hunting pheasant, deer, turkey, and limited duck. In addition, we offer a 2-acre Pond that is stocked with trout while sustaining its own bass population for your fishing enjoyment. Club members also enjoy nearly exclusive access to North Goshen Pond, which is owned and restricted to access by the Torrington Water Co. This includes all season fishing including Ice fishing with the only restrictions being closed due to UNSAFE-ICE conditions. Our Club Pond is stocked multiple times from mid-April with our last stocking, usually being Memorial Day Weekend in which we host a Free Kids Fishing Derby that is open to the public with prizes awarded in several categories.
Membership also includes access to one of the largest pheasant stocking programs offered by a Private Club in the area again with Sunday Hunting after 12 noon. We stock 3 times a week with this year’s number being about 160 birds per/week including a special Thanksgiving Morning Stocking usually being our last regular stocking for the year, although we have had a few bonus stockings after that in past years.
The Club does shut down all bird hunting for a week the Monday after Thanksgiving to give the deer hunters the opportunity to hunt without the bird hunters and their dogs pushing the deer around. Bird hunting resumes the following Monday into February with our Game Preserve Status.
The Club offers a Dog Training Area, Skeet Shooting which is also open to the public, Turkey Shoots open to the public from mid Oct. – Thanksgiving and as a member you will get a reduced rental fee for exclusive use of the Pavilion for an event you may need to host.
All members are required to :
- Complete a Work Hr. requirement of a min of (10) hrs / the 1st year of membership and (5) hrs a year after that on any of our many work parties and / or assist with some of our events.
- Pay Dues and Assessments which are $500 /yr. There is a $100 initiation fee for the 1st year of membership.
- Members are also required to buy or Sell (1) book of raffle tickets for our annual raffle.
